The element of humour is created in the series of Lucia novels by portraying the dynamics of middle class families during the 1920s in Britain. In the book, several upper-middle-class families are mentioned who are all aiming for a more prestigious place in the society. The story revolves around the matrons during that time who have their own fantasies of how the life is for the rich. They want to live their lives full of elegance and royalty like the upper class.

The series has a total of six novels. It became very popular after its release since people could relate to the protagonist in their own ways. A TV series was made which was based on the book, during the 1985 and 1986. It had ten episodes in the season and the show was aired on Channel 4. Produced by London Weekend Television, the novel was much appreciated during the time. Another adaptation of the book was presented on BBC one during the December of 2014. This adaptation was presented in three parts and even after almost 90 years of its release, the novel still holds a place in the hearts of the readers.
