The Invention Review:
The story of the book is inspired by the true story of turn-of-the-century French pioneer filmmaker Georges Melies, his collection of mechanical and survival films and his wind-up figures known as Automata. The author decided to add up an Automaton to the storyline after reading Gaby Wood’s book Edison’s Eve published in 2007, which revolves around the story of Edison’s attempt to develop a talking wind-up doll. Melies sold a set of automata to the museum but it was forgotten because of passing times. Unfortunately, when it was considered by someone they were ruined by rainwater. The major characters of the story are Georges Melies automation, Hugo’s Father, Georges Melies, Isabelle and Hugo Cabret.
